Candy Cane Reinvented

My brother and his wife are having a Jack and Jill baby shower. It's the modern day baby shower where everyone is invited, men, women and children. So my co-host, Steffani and I thought it would be nice to have something for the kids that are coming. I have no idea what the age range is, so I spent the day trying to figure out what kind of goodie bag to put together. I remembered going to some ice-cream shop and they had these hand-made candy cane's which I thought were genius! So here is my attempt at replicating. The sad part is I can't even remember the store we went into years ago to see what they look like again.

I got the candy sticks from Michael's, the bags online and the candy from the Dollar Store and Target. What doesn't work are hard candies like Jujube's and jelly worms. They are to thin for the stick. If you were using a skewer, it would work, but I wouldn't recommend sharp tips for kids to eat off of. The whole project took about half an hour for a dozen candy cane's. Let me know if you try this and how it goes.

End result... The candy canes were a hit! The kids ate them then and there. The down side is that the taffy melted in the hot summer weather! Note to self and to others, if you are making this project in the summer, don't pick anything that could melt easily, BIG mistake.
