Home Pants

Finally had time to do a PJ pants tutorial.  Maybe it was a little out of necessity, since Max is growing out of his pants.  The kid is the same size as Dylan!  Ok this is how you do it.  Take a pair of pants that fit and that you like.  We are just going to adjust the waist and the length.  I took this Gap pants that I love.

Fold the pants like the picture below and trace on any kind of paper.  My grandma liked to use paper bags from the grocery store, but lucky for me I have the kids craft paper. 

Add however many inches to the pants you need plus an inch for the seam.  Do the same for the waist.  Along the two sides add 5/8" for the seam.

Fold your material and cut two matching prints, one for each leg.

Flip the pants front facing and sew a line on the inside of the pants.  See below.

 Flip one leg with pattern facing out (wrong sides together), into the other leg kept front facing (right sides together).  Line up the raw edges and sew.

 They always tell you to do a double stitch where the crotch is because it always has a tendency of ripping.  So I would recommend it.

You are almost done!  On the waist fold over half an inch, press and fold again.  The second fold has to be long enough to fit the elastic.  So depending on the size of your elastic add another half inch.

For the waist and hem, your fold should look like this. For the waist, sew all the way around but leave a 3 inch gap to slide the elastic in.  For the hem sew all the way around.

I put the elastic on a safety pin so help me guide it through.

Do a zig zag stitch on your elastic to close the loop.

Pom Pom's

I'm still working on the shower and I finally get to try the Martha Stewart pom pom's.  It's about as easy as following the instructions.  My only advice is that you have to fold the tissue paper exactly 1 1/2 inches, like the directions say or else it won't look anything like the picture.  I hope everything comes together for the party. I'll keep ya'll posted. Wish me luck!

Recipe for Mod Podge Success

Why does it seem that when you don't work, you actually work more? Is that even possible??? I've been busy with planning Max's birthday parties and now I've moved on to my cousins bridal shower.  Instead of your usual sign-in, I thought I would do something a little more special.  She loves to bake, so I thought recipe cards!  I found some awesome one's on Etsy that you can personalize.  Then I found a wooden box to mod podge and this is the result.


You can buy any mod podge you like with what ever finish you like.  This project was done with the matte finish.  


Tools:

• Recipe box (Michael's $4.00)
• Mod Podge (Michael's $5.50)
• Scrapbooking paper (Michael's - one sheet $.50)
• Exacto knife
• Sponge brush (Michael's $.30)
• Ruler

Cut scrapbooking paper with your exacto knife to fit on the box.  If your paper does not match the box you can paint the box first with matching paint.  My paper for this project matched, so I did not have to do any pre-painting.  I also did not cut for exact fit.  I cut the paper short to show the wood as trim.

Next put a thin layer of mod podge on the box.  Remember thin layer. If it is too thick you will get bubbles.  Then place the paper on the box.  Let the mod podge dry a few minutes.  Then spread a thin layer of mod podge over the whole box.  It will look like the picture below.  I thin white film that will disappear into a matte finish!  I did two layers of finish just in case.  So when the first layer dries add another.

Don't forget to wash your sponge brush immediately so you can reuse again and again.

Man Made

Now that the holidays are officially over I can get this blog going again.  I saw some great things this holiday that inspired me.  As of recent, I went to my husbands friends annual Christmas party and before we could even knock on the door, I saw this incredible wreath!  When the door opened, I saw some really cool decorations. I had to ask, "where did you get your decorations?".  The answer blew my mind.  It was Jose, the man of the house!  I literally asked him if he could be my new BFF.  We got into some great conversations about Joann's Fabric Store, Michael's and Etsy.  Check out what he made!  Sorry the pictures are blurry, I had to use my phone.
